Definition of Pension:
Pension is worked out at 50% of average of emoluments drawn during the last 10 months period preceding the date of retirement for max. qualifying service of 33 years. For qualifying service of less than 33 years but not less than 10 years, the pension is worked out proportionately.
Emoluments :
Basic pay, stagnation increment and non-practising allowance granted to medical officer in lieu of private practice, are treated as emoluments for the purpose of pensionary benefits.
Qualifying Service :
The service rendered by Govt. servant upto the date of retirement after completion of 18 years of age is treated as service qualifying for pension provided the service has been rendered under the Govt. and is paid by the Govt.
Non qualifying service:
The following periods of service do not qualify for pension:
- Period of extra ordinary leave without pay on private affairs.
- Casual / daily rated service
- Service paid out of contingency
- Suspension period, if not treated as duty
- Dies-non
- Period of break in service
- Service rendered before 18 years of age
- Service rendered on contract

The minimum qualifying service required to earn pension is 10 years and maximum 33 years.
The minimum amount of pension in respect of those Govt. servants who retire/die on or after 1.1.96 is Rs. 1275/- p.m. and maximum pension is Rs.15000 p.m.
